Information for parents and carers
We want to help your child get the best out of themselves in secondary school.
To do this, we run peer-to-peer tutoring and mentoring programmes which connect older and younger pupils to support each other through important stages of their education.
Meet Mikey and Zahra
Mikey started Year 7 in a new secondary school in September. Zahra is in Year 10. Last summer, she was recruited and trained as a Franklin Scholar. Zahra is Mikey's personal coach, and they've been meeting up for an hour each week since the beginning of the year.
Their sessions combine fun group activities, some literacy tuition, and general guidance - a chance to reflect on their experiences in school, and support each other to get to where they want to be. They learn about teamwork, and they learn about empathy.
Mikey's confidence, resilience and academic progress have been boosted over the year thanks to his work with Zahra. And she's benefitted from specialist training that has supported her to grow as a leader within her school, and to develop real transferable skills.
It's not just Mikey's academic progress that has improved. Tutoring Mikey has helped to improve Zahra's levels of focus and perseverance, which is reflected in her own grades getting better and better as she approaches a crucial time in her school career.
