The Franklin Scholars are your schools' most promising older students, who we recruit and train to provide a year-long programme of mentoring and support to younger students experiencing challenges in school, be they academic or socio-emotional. As a meaningful social action project, the programme helps develop young people’s character – including resilience and confidence.
We believe in the power of young people helping young people. For primary schools, our unique peer-support programme sees Year 5 buddies work together a Year 3 pupil, supported by a ‘bundle’ of other students. As a term-length programme, ‘Buddies and Bundles’ helps develop literacy skills and key social and emotional skills and habits.
Our programmes deliver significant social and emotional skills development opportunities for students, leading to improved sense of self-efficacy as well as improved academic progress. The Franklin Scholars Programme in particular, helps narrow the gap between Pupil Premium and non-Pupil Premium students, and provides an opportunity to participate in meaningful volunteerism.
